Romelu Lukaku explains why he has made such an amazing impact at Roma after a difficult summer with Chelsea. ‘I am a professional. Lots of people talked about me, but I do my talking on the field.’

The Giallorossi had not won on their travels in Serie A for six months, but ran riot in Sardinia with a Lukaku brace, Houssem Aouar and Andrea Belotti strikes.

Nahitan Nandez pulled one back in the final minutes from the penalty spot after a Bryan Cristante handling offence.

Lukaku now has seven goals in just eight official games wearing the Roma jersey since his loan move from Chelsea. Is this Lukaku’s Roma?

“No, Roma is Roma, as I said earlier we are a team and we need to improve. We are in a difficult position, but we want to do better for the fans, the city, that whole group of people behind us,” he told DAZN.

Considering he had no summer training with Chelsea or Roma and arrived in the final days of the transfer window when the season had already started, how has the Belgian managed to immediately get into this kind of form?

“I am a professional. I worked over the summer. Lots of people talked about me, but I do my talking on the field. I am happy with how things are going and want to continue like this.”

There was bad news too at the Unipol Domus, because Paulo Dybala limped off in tears during the first half after a knock to the left knee.

“I have had the fortune of playing alongside some great players in Italy. Dybala has helped me a lot, he is the most important player in the squad and we hope he recovers as soon as possible.”

Another reason for Lukaku’s fine form is the presence of Jose Mourinho, who had already worked with him in England.

“I always said that I have a special rapport with the coach. He knows my family and my kids, he has faith in me and I have faith in him.

“However, he is also tough with me, the way other coaches were in the past. It is the only way I can improve as a player.”

  1. He is scoring against weak teams, Roma have had no tests at this stage of the season , ridiculous to exalt a striker until he has faced a decent side!
