Romelu Lukaku has ‘had the best year-and-a-half of my career at Inter,’ but warns they ‘should’ve killed off the game’ with Borussia Monchengladbach.

His brace secured a 3-2 victory after Matteo Darmian’s opener, but Alassane Plea scored twice and had a third disallowed for offside.

“As I said, I am one of the 25 players. There are far more experienced players here than me. I want to help the team to win, that’s what I do in every training session and every match, I want to help Inter,” Lukaku told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am so happy to be here with these lads, I’ve had the best year-and-a-half of my career at Inter, so I thank the coach, his staff and my teammates.

“We should’ve killed off the game, we were 3-1 up and were fortunate with VAR that the equaliser was disallowed. Having said that, we should not be negative, as there are many young players and we are improving.”

Sky Sport Italia showed footage of Lukaku shouting at Nicolò Barella mere moments before the equaliser for 1-1.

“I was a little angry, because Lautaro and I at that moment were two against two. I thought in the first 40 minutes we attacked really well, so there are risks that we have to take, but we were over-doing it.”

Borussia Monchengladbach have eight points, Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid seven, while Inter close the gap on five.

It means going into the final game, any of the four can reach the last 16 or crash out of Europe entirely.

The final fixtures on December 9 are Inter-Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid-Gladbach.
