According to Tuttosport newspaper, Romelu Lukaku has asked Inter directors to return to the club and is ready to cut his wages to wear the Nerazzurri shirt again.

The Belgian striker pushed to return to Chelsea last summer and eventually completed a €113m move to Stamford Bridge. However, things haven’t gone as the 28-year-old expected as he has only scored 12 goals in 34 appearances with the Blues.

According to Tuttosport newspaper, Lukaku is in contact with Inter directors Piero Ausilio and Beppe Marotta and has asked them to return to the club. The striker is also dropping hints on social media and liked the picture of the team-building barbecue organized at the Pinetina a couple of weeks ago.

Inter directors and President Steven Zhang are aware that Lukaku wants to return and is ready to cut his salary by almost 50% to play for the Nerazzurri again. However, the Serie A champions must balance the books and could see more stars leave in the summer, perhaps Stefan de Vrij and Lautaro Martinez.

Lukaku isn’t on good terms with Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, but even if the German coach leaves in the summer, any potential new owner of the Blues will not sell Lukaku on the cheap after his €113m transfer just one year ago. This means that the striker would only return to Inter on loan, but the club would face the same economic issues at the end of the next campaign.

  1. Not interested! Lukaku was sensational for Inter for 2 seasons, and had his chance to become a true club legend, but he blew it!! He decided to chase the money instead, and now he wants to come crawling back, as things haven’t gone to plan!
I’d rather Inter used their money wisely, and invested in the future, with players like Scamacca and Frattesi- players who genuinely want to be at the club, and aren’t gonna have their heads turned if someone starts waving a few extra euros their way…
Thanks for the memories Romelu, but you are a part of our history now, not our future!!

  2. Not an Inter fan, but they seem more balanced now without him, and though they aren’t in the top position, they’re not far either. He made his bed…wage reduction or not, he turned his back to a fanbase that mostly adored him. Don’t use Serie A as your fallback plan.

  3. He won’t come to Inter not because Inter don’t want him since without a doubt better than the current Inter targets for his position. But because he will simply cost Inter more than the other targets. BUUUT if for some reason he actually agrees to lower his salary Inter will take him back in a heartbeat. However Inter will focus more on serious targets like Scammacca and selling a few players.
