Romelu Lukaku has failed to show his best with Inter this season and this is partly due to the lack of a relationship with coach Simone Inzaghi, reports suggest.

The 29-year-old Belgian striker felt that he had to apologise to the travelling Nerazzurri fans yesterday after the frustrating 1-1 draw with Salernitana, a result that could have important ramifications in the race for a Champions League finish.

Patience has all but disappeared for Lukaku, who now seems destined to return to Chelsea in the summer and not return after his expensive and ultimately disappointing loan return.

La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that part of Lukaku’s struggles this season stem from the fact that he essentially has no relationship or understanding with Inzaghi, something that hasn’t helped him show his best at Inter.

The club are aware of this and are not planning to negotiate a new deal with Chelsea in the summer, leaving the Belgian’s future in doubt.
