Sevilla’s acquisition of ex-Real Madrid midfielder Isco all but rules out a move for Lazio’s Luis Alberto, despite his desire for a return to Spain.

The 29-year-old midfielder handed in a transfer request to the Biancocelesti recently, keen to end his career in the Iberian peninsula, but talks with Sevilla did not go particularly smoothly. The Roman club wanted around €25-30m for Luis Alberto, but Sevilla’s best offer was only €15m plus Oliver Torres.

As highlighted by Gianluca Di Marzio, Isco’s move to Sevilla essentially rules out a move for Luis Alberto now, making a stay with Lazio incredibly likely.

The 29-year-old Spaniard will now have to accept the situation and return to work under Maurizio Sarri. His contract expires with Lazio in 2025 and so far no other clubs have seriously come forward for him.

Luis Alberto had a season full of ups and downs under Sarri last campaign, scoring five goals and providing 11 assists in 34 Serie A appearances. Some games the Spaniard looked magical in the midfield and other games he was completely invisible, frustrating the Italian coach.
