Lazio midfielder Luis Alberto admits he’d like to return to Spain and insists the Biancocelesti can win the Europa League: ‘Otherwise it’s useless to even play.’

The former Liverpool midfielder previewed tomorrow’s Europa League clash against Porto.

“We are happy and results have been helping us,” the Spaniard said at a press conference.

“We are all going toward the right direction. We have a tough game ahead. Porto press high up the pitch and defend well. Ciro Immobile will return tomorrow and he’ll give us crucial help.”

The Italy international had missed Lazio’s last two games in Serie A and Europe because of a fever.

Luis Alberto had issues with Maurizio Sarri at the beginning of the season, but their rapport has been improving over the last few months.

“I’ve improved physically and defensively, which is what the coach wanted from me,” he said.

“I am sure that I can give even more, maybe in the final third. I am happy with what I am doing.

“Europa League is a great competition and we want to win it. Otherwise, it would be useless to even play. We can beat everyone when we are on our day, we are a strong team and it’s never easy to face us.”

How about his future? Does Luis Alberto plan to stay in Rome long term? The Spaniard said last week that he’d like to return to Spain one day…

“I was clear, I’d like to play in La Liga and return to my country. However, I feel well here, I have a contract until 2025 and I wouldn’t mind staying.”
