Luis Alberto is set to sign a new deal with Lazio despite his failure to report for training with the rest of the squad earlier in the week.

The 30-year-old was not involved in Lazio training on Tuesday, originally thought to be a scheduled rest, but it was later revealed that he had taken the decision upon himself to stay at home.

As a result, Luis Alberto has not travelled to England with the rest of the Lazio squad, who are currently taking part in a pre-season friendly with Aston Villa.

Luis Alberto is currently contracted until the summer of 2025, but Lazio had been hoping that he would sign a two-year extension until 2027 with an increase in wages reflecting his performances in recent seasons.

Calciomercato.com report that the player had been hoping to secure a €140,000 signing on bonus, which Lazio were reluctant to agree to.

As stated by Calciomercato, the player was at Lazio’s training ground at Formello for talks with club representatives and has now decided to accept Lazio’s original proposal, although there will likely be consequences for the developments over the last few days.

Director Angelo Mariano Fabiani has been credited as acting as a peacemaker in recent talks.
