He terminated his contract by mutual consent on Monday and has now officially put pen to paper for Sao Paulo in Brazil.

“Lucio is a dream come true for us,” said director of sport Baptista after he signed a two-year contract.

The 34-year-old returns to his homeland for the first time since 2001, when he left Internacional for Bayer Leverkusen.

The centre-back went on to play for Bayern Munich, Inter and Juventus.
