Dynamo Kiev coach Mircea Lucescu says Juventus must be patient with Andrea Pirlo and believes his former pupil will succeed as a coach.
The Bianconeri come from a 1-1 draw with Benevento last weekend but they are already through to the knockout stages of the Champions League ahead of the match against Lucescu’s men on Wednesday.
“In the first leg, Juve gave me a good impression,” Lucescu told Tuttomercatoweb. “The match was tight, then Juve’s individuals made the difference and we lost 2-0.
“A big team like Juventus have two teams in their squad. That’s why I warned my players that even if they are through to the next round, they will be the same as always.
“Squads like Juve and Barcelona are built to always win, especially in the Champions League.”
Lucescu, who gave Pirlo his debut at Brescia, said the Bianconeri fans must be patient with the new coach.
“Give him time,” he said. “In Italy we talk too much, and the coach always becomes the scapegoat.
“Pirlo is a young coach; he has to deal with a dressing room full of great players and therefore lives a delicate situation.
“I’m convinced, however, that his talent and his vision of the game, those qualities expressed as a player, will also come out on the bench.
“In my opinion, coach Pirlo has a great future in his new role too.”
Lucescu claimed the Old Lady have been ‘unlucky’ this season but pointed out they must improve as well.
“Juve offer very attacking football,” he said. “There’s still something to improve. The Bianconeri made some mistakes against us too.
“But let’s say that in general, up to now, they have also been a bit unlucky in 2020-21.”
