The midfielder spoke to Esporte Interativo’s Instagram Live about his experience in Italy of the coronavirus pandemic.
“It’s a moment of great worry and sadness to know so many are dying, but at the same time we see so much collaboration and solidarity too,” said Lucas Leiva.

“It’s a moment of great worry and sadness to know so many are dying, but at the same time we see so much collaboration and solidarity too,” said Lucas Leiva.
“My wife and children went to Brazil when the situation here deteriorated, but then the lockdown started there too a week later, so they came back and are undergoing quarantine in Rome with me.
“I had thought for a moment of going to Brazil too, but the club did not authorise me, because otherwise I’d have had to be in quarantine for two weeks when I returned.
“All the Lazio players decided to stay in Italy, because none of us were authorised to leave the country.”
This is one of the reasons why Lazio were so adamant that training should resume, because they had their players under relatively controlled conditions, whereas Juventus and Inter had several foreign players return to their home countries.
If training is to begin from May 4, players coming back to Italy will have to stay at home in quarantine for two weeks before undergoing tests, as COVID-19 can have an incubation period of up to 14 days.
“The season was suspended when we were one point off the top of the Serie A table. If we get the all-clear to resume, we can have our say in the Scudetto race.
“In any case, I think we’ll be able to qualify for the Champions League and that would already be an extraordinary result.”
Juventus are on 63 points, Lazio 62 and Inter (with a game in hand) 54.
