Brazilian papers claim Liverpool offered Lucas Leiva plus £22m to Napoli for Gonzalo Higuain.

The Reds have repeatedly been linked with Argentina international Higuain and there have already been rumours of a January relaunch.

According to Brazilian paper Zero Hora, Liverpool have a new plan to tempt Napoli into a sale.

They would offer £22m cash plus full ownership of Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva.

It is well know that Lucas Leiva was on Rafa Benitez’s wish-list over the summer, but a deal could not be struck between the clubs.

It was Benitez who brought Lucas to the Premier League in 2007.
