Parma captain Alessandro Lucarelli has announced that he and his teammates will not play this weekend’s game against Genoa.
The Ducali are in financial crisis, with staff and players going unpaid all season. Club President Giampietro Manenti assured yesterday that the game would take place, but the players have other ideas.
“We’ve decided we won’t play in Genoa,” Lucarelli told reporters outside Collecchio, the club’s training ground.

“We’ve decided we won’t play in Genoa,” Lucarelli told reporters outside Collecchio, the club’s training ground.
“We’ve asked for the game to be postponed.”
Damiano Tommasi, head of the players’ union, the AIC, confirmed the move, and backed the beleaguered Parma players.
“We’ve made a request to the Federation to postpone the match. These are no conditions under which to play a Serie A game.
“The Federation will make their assessments, we’ve made our decision in agreement with the Genoa players.
“The Parma players have decided to wait another week to see what Manenti can do to move forward.
“What’s going on at Parma is an extraordinary situation which requires extraordinary action. At the moment Parma cannot take to the field.
“We hope this week will bring some hope for Parma, we’re looking forward to the meeting of the Lega on March 6.”
This represents the second game in a row which Parma have called off, and there are now serious doubts over whether or not they'll make it to the end of the season.
Should the Ducali be unable to complete their fixtures, all sides which have still to play them will be awarded a 3-0 walkover.
