Alessandro Lucarelli fears Parma are ‘doomed’ and hits out at Cesena President Giorgio Lugarese for saying he wouldn’t help save them.

The Ducali may not make it to the end of the season, as the club faces a bankruptcy hearing on March 19, and no-one has been paid since July.

“We’re doomed to going under, it doesn’t take a genius to figure it out,” Lucarelli told La Repubblica.

“The only hope that remains is controlled administration and someone takes over at auction.

“I’m sorry for the fans, they’ve been messed around like us. They’ve demonstrated passion and intelligence at [Parma’s training ground] Collecchio, in other places there would have been big problems.

“I hope we can return to playing, but if we stop then it’s not down to us, all we’ve done is one protest. The Lega and the FIGC haven’t protected us, nobody has come here, not [FIGC President Carlo] Tavecchio, nor [Lega Serie A President Maurizio] Beretta, just two lawyers.

“We’ve been alone for months, since [former President Tommaso] Ghirardi ran away. They’re all guilty, [ex-CEO Pietro] Leonardi and him first, the institutions which have allowed this to happen, then Manenti, then Taci, at least he didn’t promise anything.

“Manenti? We saw a headed document which guaranteed €100m. We looked at each other and said: ‘we’re ruined’.”

The Ducali captain also criticised Giorgio Lugarese, who has said that Cesena would refuse to be involved in any effort to save Parma.

“It’s Parma in this situation now, I hope it never happens to Cesena. It’s not a question of money, we’re also trying to help players in the lower Leagues.

“We want a change of rules, monthly checks to make sure a situation like this never arises again, and a long-term commitment for Parma.

“If we compare ourselves to workers taking home €800 per month, then we’re losers, but few players are on high incomes.

“I’m afraid that they [the authorities] just want to get us through to June, to avoid trouble with the TV rights and then abandon us to our fate.”
