Napoli forward Hirving Lozano said he wants a move to ‘a bigger club’ after ‘improving’ with the Partenopei. ‘I’m very competitive’.

The Mexico international spoke about his future after the nation’s second consecutive defeat in the World Cup Qualifiers.

Canada picked up a 2-1 win over the Mexicans, when Lozano was replaced at half-time by Roberto Carlos Alvarado Hernandez.

“I think I play in a very competitive club, with very good teammates, I have grown a lot due to this,” Lozano told TV Azteca Deportes.

“The truth is, I would love to play at a bigger club. I consider myself a very competitive player, with clear goals.

“I feel I’m at a good level and I would like to take this new step. However, let’s take one step at a time. Now, I must improve as much as possible, both personally and as a player.

“Then I hope that, God willing, it can happen.”

Lozano, who turned 26 in July, arrived from PSV Eindhoven in August 2019, when the Partenopei reportedly paid €35m to secure his signature.

His contract with the Azzurri expires in June 2024 and the winger has established himself as an important player at the Stadio Diego Maradona.

Lozano has played 93 competitive games with the club, contributing 23 goals and nine assists in the process, appearing 12 times in Serie A this term.

  1. Burky – couldnt have said it better. It’s one thing to be ambitious but this came across horribly.

  2. It’s rational to say that, sorry to say but napoli isn’t near anywhere to the big club in Europe
such as FC Bayern,Real Madrid,PSG, or English clubs

  3. I hope this is the press misinterpreting his words. Napoli have been good to him. And he should know ADL will have him frozen out of the club until the end of his contract. And yes he plays well, But should not overrate himself. If he was that good a ‘bigger’ club would have come calling for him. Go to another club that plays you the last ten minutes of the match.

  4. As if a bigger club would want him. He can’t even be an undisputed starter in front of Politano or Insigne.

  5. What an absolute shame.
I am not a Napoli fan, and I am insulted and embarrassed.

Does anyone remember the ‘great’ manager, Walter Mazzarri, who left Napoli (finished 2nd that year) to go to a ‘bigger’ club, Inter (who finished 5th that year)??

    Where is he now?

  6. Wanting to play for a RM, Bayern etc is one thing and belittling your current club is another .. a club for which the Legendary Maradona played?! If he doesn’t humble down soon, when he’s not tearing it at Napoli and do the talking on the field .. hell end up at a lower club!!

  7. More dirty work by journalists. There’s no way he’s that stupid.

If you ask the average serie a fan, how many would name him in their top 5 or top 10 or maybe even top 15 players? When has he really excelled? 9 assists in nearly 100 games for Napoli and 23 goals. Hardly a ‘top’ player.

  8. @Football fans, in other news, it has been discovered that water is wet. Where do you see Napoli pretending to be one of the bigger clubs? They do quite well to compete with the big clubs but if there is a valid criticism, need to change their mentality and focus more on winning silverware and a little less making money developing and selling players.
