Current Minister for Sport Spadafora has infuriated many clubs with his refusal to set a date for the return of Serie A, or indeed even confirm whether the season will be allowed to continue.
“Football is an industry. An enormous industry,” Spadafora’s predecessor Lotti told Il Foglio newspaper.
“It brings in €1.5bn per year and with its taxes guarantees money for the State, also financing all other sport in the country.
“Spadafora should either have the courage to stop the league by decree or otherwise, if he thinks the season can resume, he must give some sense of timing and guidelines.
“Spadafora has to listen to the scientific committee and tell us once for all whether the season can start or not.”
The committee had rejected the original medical protocol presented by the FIGC for being ‘insufficient,’ but a new version will be discussed tomorrow.
“We are evaluating it, as the verdict of the scientific committee is not yet ready,” President of the ISS health institute Silvio Brusaferro told the Corriere della Sera.
“All team sports put together a certain number of people. These are by their very nature gatherings. There are many variables in play that must be considered.”
