Television programme Le Iene announced they have postponed an interview accusing Lazio President Claudio Lotito of paying Mauro Zarate wages ‘under the table.’
The report first appeared in La Gazzetta dello Sport and Lotito is now suing the newspaper for defamation.
Le Iene was going to air its own episode tonight touching on the situation, including an interview with former agent Luis Ruzzi, where he described the way Zarate was allegedly paid via a shell company in 2008.
It was claimed that Lazio only paid €7m of the €20m salary in his contract, with the rest going through an English company called Pluriel Limited, run by Zarate’s brother, Sergio.
However, Le Iene have now pulled the episode with just hours to spare, officially so that they can allow Lotito the right to reply on air.
“In case he does not want to take this opportunity, then it will be transmitted on Tuesday June 2.”
