Lazio President Claudio Lotito has launched a stern warning to coach Maurizio Sarri after a poor start to the season. ‘If someone thinks they can resolve it all by themselves, the President will intervene.’

The tension is rising rapidly within the club after a dismal opening run of results that saw them pick up just four points in five Serie A games, plus a last-gasp Champions League draw with Atletico Madrid earned by goalkeeper Ivan Provedel’s stoppage-time header.

In response, Sarri reportedly cancelled the planned day off to keep the squad working in a training retreat.

“I am like a father of this family,” Lotito told Il Messaggero reporters.

“The objective must be a common one, but clearly if someone thinks they can resolve it all by themselves, then the President will intervene.”

There has long been an atmosphere of tension between Lotito and Sarri, who clashed several times over the summer due to the lack of new signings, then when they were finally picked up, it was too late to get them fully integrated for the start of the campaign.

Lazio finished second in the Serie A table last season and qualified for the Champions League.
