Lazio President Claudio Lotito took another swipe at former coach Simone Inzaghi. ‘I consider a handshake to be a contract, but others…’

The tactician had agreed a new deal to remain at the Stadio Olimpico during a lengthy dinner meeting with Lotito and director Igli Tare.

However, he changed his mind a day later when Inter came forward with an improved offer.

His contract was due to expire on June 30, so he was a free agent and could negotiate with the Nerazzurri.

“I consider a handshake to be a contract, but others…” said Lotito during an event for the promotion of the Lazio Women’s team to Serie A.

“Verba volant, scripta manent.”

Lotito is fond of littering his speech with Latin phrases and this one translates as: spoken words fly away, but the written word remains.

Lazio are expected to announce Maurizio Sarri’s arrival later today.
