Claudio Lotito has presented Stefan de Vrij to reporters and made clear that Lazio’s policy is one ‘based on facts’.

The Aquile have come under criticism of late from their own supporters for their transfer policy, and for missing out on Davide Astori to city rivals Roma.

However, in completing De Vrij’s signing, the club’s President has taken the opportunity at his presentation to talk up the Biancocelesti’s work.

“We are here today to once again demonstrate the reality of the behaviour and facts about this club,” Lotito began in introducing De Vrij today.

“We know what we want to do. We have goals that we pursue and realise. Our primary objective was to strengthen the defence with two signings.

“De Vrij was our priority. We wanted him, we tried for a long time. Eventually we managed to bring him to Lazio.

“He will be the present and the future of Lazio. This is a player with great potential and great room for improvement. It is not by chance that he was voted the best defender at the World Cup.

“He has shown with us to be professional and correct. He will be a key element of our team. I hope that he can settle in quickly and become an added value for us.

“Ours is a policy of facts. We are not accustomed to making proclamations. I hope that these facts are demonstrated in the acquisitions of Djordjevic, Parolo, Basta, De Vrij, a left-bacl [likely to be Braafheid] and the redemption of Candreva.

“We will try to bring in additional reinforcements for the defence. We are working and are sure that we can achieve our goals. De Vrij will be a flagship for Lazio and even for Italian football at a national level.”
