Lazio President Claudio Lotito has insisted that he is not ‘stingy’ and explained why he did not sell Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. “Football isn’t just business.”
Lotito claimed earlier in the year that he had rejected a €160m bid from an unnamed club for Milinkovic-Savic last summer, and he made it clear he only worked in Lazio’s best interests.
“I smile when people say that I spend little on new signings,” he told Tempo.

“I’m the absolute majority shareholder, but Lazio being a listed company means I must also safeguard the interests of small investors.
“Then this urban legend that I’m stingy is discredited by the facts. Lazio spends a lot of money every year.
“The balance sheet data proves it. We capitalise and strengthen, while thinking about the future.
“I don’t regret not selling Milinkovic. Financially it would’ve been a great deal, but I’d made a promise to my Coach.
“Football isn’t just business: I also didn’t so as to not cause distress for the fans.”
