Lazio President Claudio Lotito admits ‘I’ve used up some of my weapons’ in keeping Sergej Milinkovic-Savic at the club.

Lazio managed to stave off interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs for Milinkovic-Savic last summer, but Lotito accepts they are in a weaker position with regards to holding on to the midfielder this time around.

“We’ve created a glasshouse, where it’s understood that people can’t be forced to perform their roles in an environment where they feel cramped,” he told Corriere dello Sport.

“Milinkovic has shown sincerity and responsibility, so that isn’t the case with him. He feels good here.

“Last year I managed to resist the assaults of other clubs, but this year I’d have fewer weapons if a different solution was proposed to the player.

“Let’s say that I used up some of my weapons last year.”

The patron then had his say on Stefan Radu, who is back in contention for the Aquile following an internal feud.

“I’m practically a Catholic, and there’s the famous parable of the prodigal son,” he explained.

“There’s the interest of the club and the squad. If someone loses sight of this vision, egoism prevails.

“You can only reach the maximum by using up all your potential.”
