Lazio President Claudio Lotito hailed Carlo Tavecchio and gave his backing to video replays during games.

Lotito was the major backer for FIGC President Tavecchio, who was this week handed a six-month ban by UEFA for racist comments.

“I am convinced that the professionalism of Carlo Tavecchio will be able to give a decisive gear change to our football, introducing a plan of reforms that so far have remained in the drawer and through which Italy will rediscover full competitiveness on a European and international stage.”

Lotito also came out against Demetrio Albertini and Juventus Coach Massimiliano Allegri, who insisted video replays during games should not be introduced.

“I’d also like to counter the position expressed by Albertini regarding the use of technology on the field.

“As far as I am concerned, the use of technology is indispensable to give certainty to judgment on incidents that have in the past been proved decisive for the outcome of the season.

“Innovating Italian football means keeping up with the times, which means safeguarding the system with absolute transparency.

“This way forward was the basis of Tavecchio’s plan, signed and supported by the vast majority of clubs, therefore resulting in the lack of confirmation in any institutional role for Albertini.”

Former FIGC Vice-President Albertini ran in the Presidential election against Tavecchio and was defeated.
