Lotito: ’12 clubs behind me for FIGC’

Lazio patron Claudio Lotito insists he has “12 clubs behind me” to become the new President of the FIGC. “I have the majority.”

The Federation is currently without a President, as Carlo Tavecchio resigned in the wake of Italy’s failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Players’ Association President Damiano Tommasi was the first to throw his hat into the ring, followed by Lega Pro chief Gabriele Gravina.

Today, the Lega Nazionale Dilettanti (amateur leagues) President Cosimo Sibilia was formally put forward as a candidate.

The Lega Serie A is proposing its own candidate for the election on January 29 and it seems to be Lotito.

“I have 12 clubs behind me,” declared Lotito to reporters.

“That means I have the majority. I did not put myself forward as a candidate, but rather others pointed to me. I will only be a candidate if we have the right conditions.”

It would be a confirmation of the status quo, because Lotito was very close to previous FIGC President Tavecchio and many accused him of being the puppet master pulling the strings.

Lotito is the owner of both Serie A side Lazio and Serie B club Salernitana.
