Lopez: ‘It’s not over’

Cagliari Coach Diego Lopez insists his side are not safe yet after their vital 1-0 win at Fiorentina.

The Sardi began the day in the relegation zone but their victory at the Artemio Franchi, coupled with Crotone and SPAL dropping points, means they are now a point clear of third-bottom ahead of next week’s final round of matches.

“It was an important result. It was a match in which we were in or out,” Lopez, whose team could have gone down today had results gone against them, reflected post-match.

“We knew we had a lot to play for against a great team.

Fiorentina were motivated and had to get points. That was an added issue, but the boys played a great match.

“Today, we had to be at a high level to get this result. We know it’s not over, there is still a difficult match ahead of us.”

Uruguayan Lopez added that the Cagliaritravelling support had played a key role in his side’s priceless win.

“The away section was full, if it had been bigger there would have been even more people.

“The support of the fans was important. Their journey has been rewarded.”
