Olympique de Marseille President Pablo Longoria explains why the Ligue 1 giants have bought several players from Serie A and insists that he is not planning to part ways with Arkadiusz Milik.

Marseille have acquired several players from Italy over the last few years. Pau Lopez, Pol Lirola, Gerson, Cengiz Under and Milik have all joined the French club from Serie A.

“We have clear ideas: mix the strength of French players with the character of players coming from abroad. Despite what many think, Serie A remains an example in terms of agonism and work culture,” Longoria told Tuttosport.

“When you buy a player from Serie A, you know that he knows how to handle the pressure. That’s a crucial aspect to wear Marseille’s shirt.”

How about Arek Milik? The ex-Napoli striker has been linked with a return to Serie A but has played a key role for Marseille this term with 20 goals in 31 appearances.

“There is a lot of interest around him, we are talking about a real hitman, but our idea is to keep the best players and Milik has a close bond with the club.”
