Ruben Loftus-Cheek noted how Milan ‘stuck together’ in their 3-1 win over Cagliari, calling it a ‘difficult game’.
The Rossoneri fell 1-0 down in Sardinia after Zito Luvumbo opened the scoring in the 29th minute, but they worked hard to turn things around and left with all three points after goals from Noah Okafor, Loftus-Cheek and Fikayo Tomori.
Milan’s result keeps them second in the Serie A table, hot on the heels of league leaders Inter. Their next outing is a difficult clash with a wounded Lazio on Saturday September 30.
Speaking to DAZN on the live broadcast after the match, Loftus-Cheek first reacted to the 3-1 win over Cagliari.
“I’m very happy. Of course, the three points are very important, it was a difficult game, we knew they’d come out fast, they got the first goal, but we stuck together and stayed strong mentally.”
He touched on how the Rossoneri managed to turn things around in Sardinia.
“We said before the game that it was very important for us to get the first goal, but then unfortunately they scored. This is why I am proud of the team for sticking together.
“We knew we’d create chances, and it was just about sticking them away. I think once they saw we came back, they knew it was going to be difficult.”
Finally, Loftus-Cheek highlighted how the result has given Milan confidence moving forward in the season.
“We want to challenge for the title and these games away from home are the most difficult. It’s all about the mentality and we showed tonight that even if we go behind, we can turn it around. That can give us confidence going forward.”
Loftus-Cheek scored his debut goal for Milan in the win in Sardinia, thundering a shot from outside the box into the bottom corner to open his account with the club. He has appeared in all seven of their games so far this season.
