Catania talent Francesco Lodi admits he was “disappointed” to be left out of Italy’s Euro 2012 squad. "I thought I'd done enough."

He had been tipped by many to be part of the long-list for the tournament, but was ignored in favour of 19-year-old Pescara midfielder Marco Verratti.

“I will admit I was disappointed, as I thought I had done well enough to make it,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“To be perfectly honest, I also gave myself a simple explanation for this: I had a good season with Catania, but it wasn’t enough.

“At least that provides me with extra motivation to do even better next term and make Cesare Prandelli’s decisions a little more difficult.

“Wearing the Azzurri jersey would be a great honour for me.”

The 28-year-old has become a key figure at Catania and insists his future does not depend on Coach Vincenzo Montella.

“Without doubt I am staying in Sicily. I have a contract until 2015, feel appreciated at Catania and have bonded with the city.”
