France captain Hugo Lloris spoke highly about Adrien Rabiot, suggesting the Juventus midfielder can help Les Bleus go far at the World Cup in Qatar.

The 27-year-old Bianconeri midfielder made his first World Cup appearance in France’s opening game of the tournament against Australia, where he put on a show, scoring the equaliser and providing an assist, impressing coach Didier Deschamps.

Injuries to Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante thrust Rabiot into the limelight and he did not disappoint, giving France some guarantees ahead of their second group game against Denmark.

Speaking in a press conference, Lloris discussed the injuries suffered by France’s midfield and how important Rabiot is to the squad.

“We pointed out the absence of Kanté, of Pogba, who are driving forces within the team, but we forgot that there were players who could be brought in to take more responsibility, to be mature, to have the experience to take the lead.

“Adrien has this profile. After what he has been doing for a few months with Juventus, this opportunity at the World Cup comes at the right time. He is ready, he proved it against Australia.

“He scored that goal and provided that assist. It shows his involvement and his impact. We also know his talent and his ability to work hard. He competes a lot, he is elegant, always available. He can help our team go far.”

The 27-year-old Rabiot has been an important figure for Massimiliano Allegri this season, scoring five goals and providing two assists in 16 appearances across all competitions for Juventus. His contract expires with the club at the end of the season and a renewal doesn’t seem likely.
