The 29-year-old was seen with an outside shot at making Vicente del Bosque’s selection for Wednesday’s friendly at the Vicente Calderon against the Azzurri, for improved form with Juventus.
However, Del Bosque has included Brazilian born Diego Costa for the first time and Alvaro Negredo, as his only two recognised strikers for the game against Cesare Prandelli’s team.
Napoli’s Pepe Reina maintains his place alongside fellow goalkeepers Iker Casillas and Victor Valdes, whilst Raul Albiol is also selected among the defenders.
