Benevento director Pasquale Foggia reveals Fernando Llorente ‘would be best for us’ and will try for Giacomo Bonaventura, but Marek Hamsik is ‘too complex’.

Benevento are running away with the Serie B title and their attentions have naturally turned to next season in Serie A, with Napoli striker Llorente at the top of their wishlist.

“He’s a player who would be best for us,” Foggia told Il Mattino.

“The President spoke to De Laurentiis over the phone and made an official approach for him. There are no negotiations yet, but we’ll catch up with Giuntoli and his agent-brother at a later date.”

The former Lazio winger was then asked about potential deals for Hamsik and Bonaventura.

“Of course I thought about him, but he would be too complex and expensive,” he replied to a question about the Slovak, before moving on to the Milan man.

“I’m always very attentive to players with expiring contracts. I’ve looked at Bonaventura from the start, but the competition is too fierce and, if someone offers him Champions League or Europa League football, it’s difficult for us to compete.

“But I’m not someone who gives up easily.”

Mauro Zarate, Daniel Sturridge, Simone Zaza and Gianluca Lapadula have also been mentioned as alternatives to Llorente.

“Too many names are being linked with Benevento. I don’t want to sound delusional or create false expectations.

“We’re looking for players who want to get their hands dirty and marry into the Benevento project in full, regardless of their name.

“If those two things are able to coexist then they’re welcome here.”
