Livorno are so deeply in debt that they weren’t even allowed to register for the 2021-22 Serie D season, excluded from the amateur league.

The once famous club was relegated from Serie C and has now failed to prove its financial stability, so the LND (Lega Nazionale Dilettanti) would not allow Livorno to compete in their amateur division.

Livorno are in absolute chaos, drowning in debt and disowned by the local council, who won’t allow them to train or play at the Stadio Picchi because of unpaid bills.

Mayor of Livorno Luca Salvetti has announced he wants to help bring local businessmen together to create a new club representing the city that can begin in Serie D.

It’s hardly the first time, as Livorno already went bankrupt in 1991, making their way back to Serie A in 2004 and reaching the UEFA Cup Round of 16 in 2006-07.

The Tuscans were in Serie A as recently as 2013-14, but it has been a downward spiral ever since.
