Serie A champions Inter have it all to do when they travel to Anfield to play Liverpool in the second leg of this Champions League last-16 tie. The Nerazzurri have a two-goal deficit to make up on Tuesday if they’re to upset Jurgen Klopp’s Reds for a place in the quarter-finals.

Liverpool vs. Inter odds

1 – Both teams to score – 3/4

2 – Liverpool to win and BTTS – 11/5

3 – Second half to be highest scoring – 51/50

4 – Liverpool to win 3-1 – 25/2

5 – Salah to score first – 17/5

Although Inter played well for long periods and came close to getting themselves on the scoresheet in the first leg of this tie, Liverpool were more clinical in front of goal to secure a commanding 2-0 victory at San Siro. If the Nerazzurri aren’t clinical at Anfield, they won’t have any hope of progressing to the next round.

Liverpool scored twice in the last 15 minutes three weeks ago, taking them to three straight Champions League victories over Inter. Even if the previous two meetings before this season were back in 2008, the Italian outfit have failed to score in any of those games.

Simone Inzaghi’s side must score at least twice on Tuesday to stand any chance of going through, and that’s a tough ask against a team who’ve only conceded 20 goals in 27 Premier League matches so far this season.

That’s an average of just 0.74 per game, while Liverpool have won all seven of their Champions League fixtures this term, conceding six goals and keeping three clean sheets in their last four games. Inter, on the other hand, have only won three of their seven European contests so far this season, with two of those coming against Moldovan minnows Sheriff Tiraspol.

The Biscione have lost their last two Champions League games against Liverpool and Real Madrid 2-0, while they also lost by the same scoreline at home to Sassuolo in the match after the first leg of this tie. Inter shared goalless draws with Genoa and Milan after that, before Friday’s resounding 5-0 victory over Serie A basement boys Salernitana.

The Serie A champions have now scored 60 league goals this season, the highest in the division. They will throw everything at this game, which is why we’re going with both teams to score coming in, but getting more than one is harder to see.

Liverpool played a little within themselves in the first leg and we can expect them to perform to a higher level back in front of their own fans. That’s why we’re backing the hosts to win and BTTS, with a 3-1 Reds win potentially of interest as Inter leave themselves more exposed as the game goes on in search of goals at the other end.

With 27 goals in 32 Premier League and Champions League games this season, look out for Mohamed Salah to score first. If you fancy a scorecast, Salah to strike first in a 3-1 Liverpool win comes in at 54/1.

Liverpool team news

Roberto Firmino, who broke the deadlock in the first leg, faces a late fitness test ahead of the return. If he passes that, Klopp should have a full complement of players to choose from.

Inter team news

Inzaghi could also have a fully-fit squad available to him for this huge game. The Nerazzurri coach will surely pick Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko up front, after the pair scored all five of Inter’s goals at the weekend.
