Nicolo Barella is one of Liverpool’s top targets to reinforce their midfield in the upcoming summer transfer window, reports detail.

The Reds have not had a positive season under Jurgen Klopp this campaign, slipping to 8th in the Premier League table and suffering a painful 5-2 loss to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie.

Klopp today confirmed that Liverpool would invest heavily in the upcoming summer transfer window, saying: “There will be new additions next summer and that is why I renewed.”

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Barella is one of the top players on Liverpool’s midfield shortlist ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Inter man has been closely followed by a number of Reds scouts in recent months, including Paul Goldrick and their head of scouting Barry Hunter.

A few months ago, Klopp spoke highly about Barella, stating that he’s “not just any player” and that “it would be nice to have him”.

The 26-year-old Italian midfielder is contracted to the Nerazzurri until June 2026 and is happy with the club, but things could change should a lucrative offer arrive in the summer.
