Perr Schuurs’ representative George Gardi says Torino is the ‘best club’ for the ex-Ajax defender who had attracted the interest of Liverpool, PSG and Tottenham.

The 22-year-old joined the Granata in the summer to replace Gleison Bremer.

The Brazil international had been named Best Serie A Defender for 2021-22 before a €40m move to Juventus.

The Granata paid €9m to secure Schuurs’ signature plus circa €2m add-ons.

“The first time the director showed the desire to get Perr, I thought it was impossible as Tottenham, PSG and Liverpool had made their moves,” Gardi told Tuttosport newspaper.

“[Former Ajax director] Overmars had rejected higher offers than the one made by Torino. His plan was to keep him at the club for a couple of seasons and sell him for a high fee, similar to De Ligt.”

The Bayern Munich star joined Juventus for circa €85m, including bonuses, in the summer of 2019 and left the Allianz Stadium after three years.

Juventus bought Bremer from Torino to replace the Netherlands international in July.

“With time, Schuurs fell in the pecking order,” continued Gardi. “Timber and Lisandro Martinez, who has joined Manchester United, were the starters, but he always did well when he played. When Torino arrived with their offer, we thought it was the best club for his future.”

Why are Torino the right club for the future of Schuurs?

“We believe he has more chances to grow here. Juric has an attacking mentality and this is something Schuurs likes. His work on tactics is top level and Torino are an ambitious club.”

The Granata have collected ten points in seven games, as many as their city rivals Juventus, after three wins, one draw and three defeats.

Juric’s side resume their Serie A campaign away at Napoli on Saturday, October 1.
