Plans to overhaul Simone Inzaghi’s underperforming Inter squad are already well underway, with Marcus Thuram, Oumar Solet and Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino on the list of names the Nerazzurri are targeting ahead of the summer transfer window.

As reported in Gazzetta dello Sport, the signing of Thuram is the current priority as Inter look to address their striking conundrum and find a long-term partner for Lautaro Martinez.

The Nerazzurri’s interest in the French international has been long standing, with sporting director Piero Ausilio having reportedly flown to Qatar to meet with the player’s representatives during the World Cup in December.

Inter will have to fend off interest from the Premier League and the Bundesliga if they are to land Thuram’s signature, with Newcastle and Bayern Munich also said to be right at the front of the race.

The signing of Thuram would be on a free transfer given that his contract with Borussia Moenchengladbach expires at the end of this season.

As an alternative, soon-to-be free agent Firmino is also said to be an attractive option for Inter.

The Brazilian is six years older than Thuram, although the trade-off comes with a great deal more experience, having won every possible trophy available during his eight-year stint with Liverpool.

Firmino is a different profile of centre forward to the options currently available to Inzaghi and his playmaking ability from deep positions could benefit the Nerazzurri moving forwards.

The 31-year-old has also already informed Jurgen Klopp of his intention to leave Anfield in search of a new adventure at the end of the season, so a move to San Siro is definitely not out of the question.

Inter also remain interested in acquiring the services of 23-year old Salzburg defender Solet in an attempt to replace the departing Milan Skriniar.

The Frenchman has impressed during his games in the Europa League this season and will likely cost in the region of €15m.

Inter have made no secret of the fact that they are intending to re-shape their squad heading into the 2023-24 season and the line-up is likely to look massively different to the one that has struggled for consistency in Serie A so far this season.
