A contract renewal for Matthijs de Ligt doesn’t guarantee his future in Turin as Liverpool and Chelsea both remain interested in a move.

The 22-year-old Dutch defender has a contract renewal offer on the table already, a two-year extension with the same salary that he currently earns today. The aim for Juventus is to lower the amortisation quota in their budget, and possibly lower the €125m release clause as well.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, even if De Ligt does put pen to paper on this contract renewal, there’s no guarantee that he’ll stay with Juventus. Both Liverpool and Chelsea are keen to sign him, putting pressure on the Bianconeri.

For now De Ligt is happy in Turin and isn’t pushing for a move away, but this could change depending on the seriousness of the interest coming from the Premier League.

The 22-year-old De Ligt has scored three goals, provided one assist and helped the side keep 11 clean sheets in 30 Serie A appearances this campaign.

  1. Time to sell to fund the Vlahovic transfer.

The Serie B champs always knew De Light will be flipped on, hence the release clause inserted in his contract (unusual for Italy).

  2. I Miss – No other club other than Juventus could attract someone like De Ligt and inserting the release clause was smart business. As for Serie B champs, that’s just one of the 68 trophies the club has won (the most by far by an Italian club) – how many has your club won kid?

  3. @i Miss, that Serie B crown Juve got on the pitch is not a shame for us, Kiddo. Juve got it on the pitch. On the contrary, Moratti spent billions for a cardboard Scudetto. That carboard scudetto is the real shame for you Inter fans.
