The Salentini beat Brescia 3-1 to give themselves some hope of avoiding the drop, hoping Genoa drop points in a tougher run-in.

“We know that we have only one option here and that is to win,” said Liverani in his press conference.

“Our duty is to try and win every match, that has to be the spirit, one game at a time. Bologna beat Inter at San Siro a couple of weeks ago, which means they’ve got quality. We are going there with respect and humility, but also the hunger of a team that needs to reach its objective.

“It would be a mistake for us to think about Genoa’s result with Inter, as it has to depend on us. When playing every three days, that’s when a distraction can make a huge difference, especially for teams like Lecce who aren’t accustomed to this kind of calendar.”

Bologna are comfortably mid-table, but that kind of attitude does not fly with coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.

“I know Sinisa, he’s like me, we don’t even like losing at pool in a bar,” smiled Liverani. “It’ll be hard-fought, but we want to achieve what they already have, Serie A safety.

“I think Udinese are practically safe now, they have 39 points.”
