The former coach responded to the reports in a letter published by news agency ANSA.
“Yesterday I learned about the club’s decision with deep regret and bewilderment,” the message read. “I read about the phone call between me and the President yesterday morning.
“Well, that phone call didn’t let us foresee anything of what happened next, neither in relation to the contents, nor for how it ended.
“If there are profiles of responsibility, to use the same words addressed to me to communicate my sacking, they certainly can’t be traced back to my person.”
Liverani thanked his staff and players for their success on the pitch, having taken the club to promotion from Serie C to the top flight in 2019.
“They wanted to abruptly and unreasonably interrupt a human and personal relationship,” he continued. “Even before football and professionalism, which united me to a team, a city and the supporters to which I am very attached.
“The success obtained on the pitch remains, beyond the useless and sterile controversies, for which I thank my staff and my players.
“I have always worked with commitment and professionalism and the results achieved on the pitch testifies this.
“I therefore reserve with great regret to protect my person and my image.”
