Lecce coach Fabio Liverani is against extra substitutions or play-offs when Serie A resumes. ‘You can’t change the rules midway through.’
A decision will be made on Thursday, with the aim of resuming Serie A games from June 13 or 20.
“This is going to be like climbing Everest for us,” Liverani told Rai Radio 1.
“We built a squad for one game per week, now we’ll have practically a World Cup or European Championship situation where we play 12 games in 40 days. It’s very worrying.”

It’s likely clubs will be allowed to make five substitutions per game rather than three in order to lessen the risk of injury, but this too is not appreciated by everyone.
“We can’t just change the rules midway through the season. We’re going to end up with no training sessions, a completely new situation for many teams.
“Allowing five substitutions and playing so many games in a row will just give more advantages to those clubs with extra-large squads.
“Playing in the afternoon during the peak of summer, even an eight-year-old child can tell you that’s impossible. There are too many other situations and interests taking control here and we won’t see proper football.”
It has been suggested that Serie A could stage play-offs and play-outs if the season cannot reach a natural conclusion.
“I am against that too, as the season started with one rule and can’t just switch to another,” concluded Liverani.
