Former Italy midfielder Fabio Liverani has been appointed as Leyton Orient manager, the club has confirmed.
Liverani became the first black player to represent the Azzurri when he played for Giovanni Trapattoni’s side in a friendly against South Africa, and was Coach at Genoa for seven games in 2013 before being dismissed after one win in that time.

The O’s are owned by Italian energy tycoon Francesco Becchetti, and have numerous connections to the peninsula, with fomer Torino player Mauro Milanese already at the club as sporting director.
“Leyton Orient have today appointed Fabio Liverani as manager,” the English League One club confirmed on its official website.
“Liverani, a former Italy international, has managerial experience with Genoa in Italy and has signed a two and half year contract with the club.
“The new manager brings with him new members of the backroom staff with Marcello Donatelli (assistant manager) and Maurizio Cantarelli (fitness coach) also joining the club.
“Mauro Milanese will return to his previous role as Sporting Director, whilst the existing backroom staff will also remain at the club.
“The new manager met with the players and staff at the O’s training ground today (Monday) and will take full control from tomorrow (Tuesday).”
The ex-Lazio man also spoke to the club’s website, expressing his happiness after taking over at Brisbane Road.
“I’m excited about this challenge and cannot wait to get started at Leyton Orient. This is a long term project and we will work together to make it a success.”
