Pol Lirola admitted Fiorentina “made a mistake” when they dropped two points in stoppage time against Bologna and claimed it's "useless to look for excuses".

The Spanish defender was participating in both ends during Beppe Iachini’s first game in charge of the Viola.

It looked like it was going to end in a win for Fiorentina after Marco Benassi had volleyed home the opening goal, before Riccardo Orsolini grabbed a late equaliser and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

It looked like it was going to end in a win for Fiorentina after Marco Benassi had volleyed home the opening goal, before Riccardo Orsolini grabbed a late equaliser and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

“It’s a shame that we lose two points, but it’s useless to be looking for excuses,” Pol Lirola said in the mixed zone after the match. “We made a mistake.

“If we continue to play like this, the victories will come.”

Iachini was robbed right at the end, in what could have been a winning start to his reign in Firenze, but Lirola knows the coach and said he expects a “beautiful Fiorentina” under the new coach.

“We didn’t have many days to work together, but in the long run this will be a beautiful Fiorentina. I found myself even better today. I have already been working with the coach.

“He always tells me to put more determination into it and during these months I will try to improve alongside him.

“Today I participated a lot in attack. Too bad we only scored one goal through [Marco] Benassi, but we could have done more. We are giving a lot on the pitch and it shows. From the physical point of view, I was better, and the team was also better.

“The results will come.”
