Rosanero President Maurizio Zamparini told journalists that Lippi had rejected an approach to take over a few years ago, suggesting the club was ‘beneath' him.

“It was a surprise for me to read that, as I absolutely do not recall saying something like that. It's not in my nature,” Lippi told TMW.

“It's absurd. I wouldn't reply to any club in that manner, not even in Lega Pro, let alone a Palermo side that is doing well. Besides, I was never even asked.”

The former Italy Coach gave his view of the Coppa Italia Final between the Sicilians and Inter.

“Palermo are more motivated, because they have never won a trophy, but there's more to them than that. The team also has quality. The only difference might be in their experience of top level games.

“Inter want to end the campaign with another piece of silverware and a triumphant finale. In any case, both sides have quality and it will be an entertaining match.

“Don't forget when these sides met at San Siro earlier this season: Palermo were 2-0 up and Javier Pastore missed a penalty before Inter won 3-2. We're going to have fun tonight, too.

“Leonardo has great character,” continued Lippi. “He hasn't been a Coach for long, but has the mentality of a top manager because of his time with big clubs and Brazil. It took courage to move from Milan to Inter.

“Delio Rossi is experienced, even if not particularly accustomed to the international stage. He certainly knows how to keep a team under control. Essentially, both clubs are in good hands.”
