World Cup winner Marcello Lippi believes Italy CT Roberto Mancini “is doing well to focus on young people”.

The Azzurri failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, and Mancio has looked to bring in some youngsters in an effort to qualify for Euro 2020.

“I like Mancini’s Italy,” Lippi, who won the World Cup in 2006, told La Nazione.

“Roberto is doing well to focus on young people, and he’s urging clubs to give them more space. It’s the same philosophy I followed with my China.

“The example of [Nicolo] Zaniolo is an obvious one. After Mancini called-up this very promising lad he quite rightly found more space at Roma.

“Then there are [Federico] Chiesa, [Nicolo] Barella, [Lorenzo] Pellegrini, [Bryan] Cristante, who are all excellent prospects.

“There are quality players out there, but they need to be trusted to play more. The results will come for the Azzurri, I’m sure of it.”
