Marcello Lippi says Milan “have built an important team” this summer, while Luciano Spalletti “is the best guarantee for Inter’s ambitions.”
Lippi was on record as having doubts over Milan’s new owners last season, but the China boss admits they have subsided after a significant outlay on new players.
“What’s being said about Milan and Inter in China? There’s been a lot of attention given to them,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Suning Group was already known for its economic strength. There were some doubts about Milan’s new owners, but the Rossoneri are working well. They’ve built an important team.
“I think Montella will play with three at the back and adopt a fluid approach.”
The former Italy CT was then pressed on how his old employers would fare under Spalletti.
“Spalletti’s the best guarantee for the Nerazzurri’s ambitions,” he added.
“He’s a wise Coach and he can get the best out of important players like Icardi and Perisic.
“Knowing Luciano, I’m sure he won’t have got too carried away by all their preseason wins.
“Indeed, he may have even taken them with a pinch of concern because they may have sent out incorrect messages.
“Still, Inter will be one of the leading lights this season. They come immediately after Juve and Napoli, alongside Milan and Rome.”
