Marcello Lippi said Rafa Benitez “could’ve done much more” at Napoli before heading to Real Madrid.
The former Italy Coach spoke to Il Mattino newspaper and admits he was unimpressed with Benitez’s tenure.
“There is understandable disappointment among the Napoli fans,” noted Lippi.
“I am not the one who has to comment on Benitez, but I do believe he could’ve done much more in Italy.

“There is understandable disappointment among the Napoli fans,” noted Lippi.
“I am not the one who has to comment on Benitez, but I do believe he could’ve done much more in Italy.
“Yet I notice he is considered very highly on an international level, as after two far from impressive years at Napoli he is going to a team like Real Madrid.”
The Partenopei not only failed to qualify for the Champions League, but finished the campaign in fifth place.
“It’s not a question of how they started or ended the season, as throughout the campaign nobody had the strength to fix certain evident defects.
“Napoli scored almost as many goals as Juventus, but conceded 30 more. It’s not up to me to judge, but it certainly would’ve been wise to counter this problem.”
Lippi has been linked with a technical director role at Milan, but assured he’s had enough of club football after leaving Guangzhou Evergrande in December.
“If I found a national team that enticed me and a project I liked, then I could go back to coaching, but never again at a club. Otherwise I’ll continue my vacation.”
