Marcello Lippi is unsurprised that Antonio Conte has managed to rejuvenate the Old Lady of Italian football.

Juventus currently lead the standings just months after Conte joined the Italian giants following a spell at Siena.

“Antonio always had what was needed to become a Coach and, usually, central midfielders make the best Coaches,” Lippi, who bossed the player during their time together in Turin, told Radio Anch’io Sport.

“I always thought that he could become a tactician for the way he applied himself in training. Gianluca Vialli could have done well too, but he quit too soon…

“Conte has great temperament. He was a leader as a player and he’s transmitting what Juventus means to his players.

“Juve are not just grit and determination, though, they have organisation on the field of play. This Juve is very strong and that has always been a characteristic.”

Although Lippi believes that the Bianconeri could make a title bid this term, he respects some other teams in Serie A.

Milan are playing well and at a high quality, but this Juve is tough like mine was. Andrea Pirlo and Buffon are world class.

“Milan are different. Alberto Aquilani and Antonio Nocerino have settled in well and raised the technical quality of the team.

“I like Lazio as they are complete in all departments.

Udinese, meanwhile, have three stars – one on the pitch, another on the bench and one at the club.”
