Inter have the opportunity to break away at the top, as Fiorentina have an even more difficult visit to Sampdoria this evening, while Roma play Lazio in the Derby della Capitale.

Fredy Guarin is suspended, but Felipe Melo returns from his one-match ban.

Icardi was sensationally dropped for the 1-0 win over Roma, fuelling reports of a January bid from Liverpool or Chelsea.

He’s back in the starting XI with Rodrigo Palacio, as it’s the turn of Stevan Jovetic and Ivan Perisic to sit on the bench.

This supports the theory that Coach Roberto Mancini doesn’t see Jovetic and Icardi as compatible, while Inter return to a 3-5-2 system.

There are many layers going on here, as Icardi is facing off against Maxi Lopez – the former husband of his current wife and his ex-best friend.

The pair traded insults repeatedly since the affair began and Icardi now lives with Lopez’s children, making this game somewhat awkward.

Maxi Lopez is on the bench, as Italy Under-21 international Andrea Belotti partners Fabio Quagliarella in attack for Torino, while Cesare Bovo is suspended in defence.

He joins injured Danilo Avelar, Joel Obi, Alexander Farnerud, Nikola Maksimovic and Pontus Jansson in the stands.

Last season Torino held Inter to a draw here and grabbed a 1-0 victory at San Siro.

The Nerazzurri haven’t won this fixture since a 2-0 result in September 2012, followed by two stalemates including an epic 3-3 draw in October 2013.

Torino have scraped just two points from their last 11 home games against Inter.
