The Azzurri started their Nations League campaign with Friday’s 1-1 draw against Poland in Bologna, as Chiesa came off the bench to earn a penalty – converted by Jorginho – after Piotr Zielinski’s opener.

Roberto Mancini said there would be changes from that game and he has certainly gone through with that, scrapping all but Gianluigi Donnarumma and Jorginho from the starting XI.

He kept everyone guessing to the last moment, but eventually picked SPAL right-back Manuel Lazzari for his international debut.

New Milan teammates Mattia Caldara and Alessio Romagnoli start together, something they are yet to do in a Rossoneri jersey, with Domenico Criscito coming in at left-back.

Although Milan signed Caldara this summer, he hasn’t played alongside Romagnoli since an Italy Under-21 match against Andorra on September 6, 2016.

Jack Bonaventura is in midfield, with Chiesa and Zaza flanking Immobile.

At least, that is the version put forward by UEFA, but it could be a 4-4-2 with Chiesa and Bonaventura out wide.

Mario Balotelli has been ruled out by injury, cut from the squad along with Cristiano Biraghi, Daniele Rugani, Davide Zappacosta, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Nicolò Zaniolo and Alessio Cragno.

Because the captain’s armband always goes to the player with the most senior caps, it’ll be Immobile’s first time on his 33rd appearance.

Portugal haven’t yet played in the Nations League, but they did have a 1-1 friendly draw with Croatia on Thursday.

Unlike Mancini, their Coach Fernando Santos picks largely the same side, ex-Milan forward Andre Silva leading the attack with Bernardo Silva and RB Leipzig star Bruma.

Juventus full-back Joao Cancelo and Napoli’s Mario Rui are up against familiar foes.

This side won Euro 2016, but Cristiano Ronaldo is not taking part in international duty this month, as he preferred to stay in Turin and focus on training with new club Juventus to reach peak fitness.

Raphael Guerreiro was in the squad, but pulled out with injury, and Monaco winger Rony Lopes was a late addition to the absentee list this afternoon.
