Lautaro Martinez was again the star of the show for league leaders Inter as they flew to a thrilling 5-1 win over Monza.

The 26-year-old Argentinian striker scored twice as the Nerazzurri cruised to a confident victory at the Stadio Brianteo on Saturday evening. Hakan Calhanoglu and Marcus Thuram also got themselves on the scoresheet, in a display of why Simone Inzaghi’s side sit top of the Serie A table.

Lautaro has continued his rise as one of the most lethal strikers in the world and this season has scored 18 goals in 18 Serie A games, sitting nine goals clear of the next closest players in the Capocannoniere rankings.

La Gazzetta dello Sport referenced Lautaro’s prolific work when reviewing his work against Monza, noting his ability to prove consistently painful, writing: “Angelillo, I’m coming to get you. 18 goals in 18 appearances, a wisdom tooth that the opponents never manage to heal.”

Corriere dello Sport were equally as impressed as their Milanese counterparts, saying: “He got the penalty and then ruthlessly landed a brace, 18 goals in 18 games for Toro, increasingly top scorer of the season and once again the best of his team.”

Tuttosport echoed these sentiments, lavishing further praise on the 26-year-old Argentine striker, commenting: “He took the penalty to make it 1-0, with a precise jab he scored the second and then finished with a penalty. There is now 18 goals in Serie A, extraterrestrial.”

Corriere della Sera didn’t disagree with their counterparts, noting how Lautaro shined across the board, saying: “Light and lethal. He scored two goals, the second from a penalty which isn’t his specialty. And from his header came the penalty that unlocked the game.”
