Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski said Roberto Baggio was his ‘first idol’, admitted he felt 'sorry' for Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny but stressed Inter ‘deserved’ to win Serie A.

The Poland international spoke to Tuttosport and was asked about a possible future in Italy.

“Roby Baggio was my first idol,” Lewandowski said. “I watched him playing for Italy and I was crazy about him.

“The technique, the dribbling, the goals and even the ponytail. [Alessandro] Del Piero, on the other hand, I remember from Juventus.

“Some of the squads I know well, because I have faced them in the Champions League. The truth, however, is that in addition to having a contract with Bayern, I feel great at this club.

“Serie A is definitely a more tactical and defensive League. But it’s as difficult to score in Italy as in Germany, Spain or England.”

Inter secured their 19th Scudetto this term and Lewandowski said he felt sorry for his compatriot and Poland teammate Szczesny.

“I’m sorry for Szczesny, he’s a teammate and a friend,” Lewandowski added. “But Inter deserved to win, they proved to be a great team.

“Winning nine championships in a row, like Juventus and Bayern, is something extraordinary. It was a year with many complicated situations due to COVID, but in general, winning another one is more difficult every year.

“The last title is always harder than the previous one.”

The former Borussia Dortmund striker then admitted he was surprised to see Jose Mourinho sign a deal with Roma ahead of 2021-22.

“A little bit, yes. In the sense that I wouldn’t have expected it,” Lewandowski admitted. “But Roma are a good team and then we are talking about a city famous for its never-ending history.”
